Stickling’s Bakery products are packaged with Oxo-biodegradable plastic bags. A pro-degradant formulation is used in the production of these bags. This turns ordinary plastic, after a pre-determined time in the presence of oxygen, into a material with a different molecular structure. The new material is biodegradable in the open environment. Compostable bags made with plant material directly compete with our food sources and most require specific composting conditions, which a lot of consumers find difficult to provide.
We choose the Oxo-biodegradable plastic bags for their versatile recyclable qualities. Unlike bags made with plant starch, the Oxo-bag should be recycled with regular plastic bags but will also degrade within an average of 2-5 years, if accidently discarded in the environment.
